I know this guy…

Everyone.

Let me repeat, EVERYONE knows a guy or guys.

I know this guy who does great electrical work. I know this guy who does really cheap plumbing work. The list goes on and on. I have said it before and I will repeat myself here, the best place to find a contractor to work in your home is by asking your friends who they use. That way someone else has already test drove the work the contractor has done. Having said that I would add a caveat to it; when speaking to your friends, neighbors and relatives if all you ever hear is how cheap the contractor was, that usually means they did not do a very good job, or just a mediocre job and the only positive spin your friend can put on it is that the work was cheap.

Just like buying the most expensive of something does not make it the best, buying the cheapest of something does not make it the worst, but if that is the only benefit then there is something missing.

Get several names from different sources you trust and do a little research. Put their names into Google or Bing and see what comes up. Check the Better Business Bureau site and see if they are mentioned or if they are members. Don’t forget, there is a cost to be a member so just because they are not does not indicate they are bad. Once you have done some leg work call the company which gives you the best feeling possible, that is when you will be getting the best value for your dollar.
