Equal ground, the conclusion…
Do they ask what you wanted out of a new system instead of trying to tell you what you wanted? I absolutely hate “Fish Friday’s” at my local restaurant! You know why? Because the serving staff is only pushing fish for your eating enjoyment! All they know is that every Friday Fish Fry they better sell, sell, sell the fish so there are no leftovers come Saturday. I am really not a fish eater (don’t tell my wife) so trying to get something other than fish can sometimes be a challenge. This is your home. You live here. You may not know the technical terms for the equipment you need, but you know the feeling you want to get from that equipment. Tell the sales professional what you want, if they do not believe that is the best thing for you they should be able to explain why; to your satisfaction.
Do you get a good feeling from them? Have you ever had the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end or just not have a good feeling about something? Trust how you feel. Most times our instincts are better than we give them credit for. If you feel like you are being hustled, you probably are. If you feel uncomfortable with the salesman in your home you will feel even more uncomfortable with three of his associates in your home for an entire day. Sometimes two people just do not connect, it has happened to me on several occasions. But when it does happen, I take a step away from the situation and ask myself if there is something else I can be doing to make my client feel more trust in me and my company. Usually the answer I seek is not too far away. You need to be comfortable with the people you let into your home, even more so when they will be a part of your home for some time to come (an average furnace will last 15-18 years).
